The Gatekeeper, 2018

David Hunwick Resin & Steel

This imposing winged steel and resin guardian stands at the divide between the spirit and earthly realms. It was created by artist David Hunwick, who says, "The Gatekeeper is a silent witness, a messenger poised between the spirit and carnal realities that shape our perception of human existence." Born and trained in the UK, Hunwick now works from his studio in Victoria, BC.

He specializes in expressive sculpture and in teaching mould making and casting. His sculptures are located in many private and public collections in the UK, Australia, Germany, and Canada. One of his most significant commissions to date was the moulding, casting and reconstruction of a massive blue whale skeleton which is now on display at the Beaty Biodiversity Museum at UBC. Hunwick teaches at Brentwood College on Vancouver Island and in Piestrasanta, Italy.
